She's just doing what the episode did, i.e. hinting something happened, while neither explicitly confirming or denying that something happened.
The thing is, if she did intend there to be something between them, there's obvious social taboo reasons why she could never explicitly confirm it (e.g. it looks vaguely like child grooming, even though he could have given up/left when he wanted to).
But if she actually didn't intend there to be anything between them, she could have not made the scenes suggestive in the first place, or at the very least denied that anything romantic happened when asked about it in person. Instead the scenes were suggestive, and her words hinted that something happened.
