>>90439136I'm not sure. SU has a great premise, great lore, the characters' backgrounds, characterizations and their suffering is sort of more "adult", the themes the show is trying to address are pretty big stuff etc. But the problem is that their writing staff is sloppy as fuck, they can't into good pacing, and the filler is completely uninteresting and not even funny. They're trying to make a comfy show and got lost in the comfy. Honestly sometimes it feels like the writing teams are afraid of advancing the big plot, and would rather throw yet another pointless townie filler "let's talk about feelings" ep in the mix.
Star vs is more a classic kid's show in the sense that there's more loud zany action, it's not that serious even in its serious moments. During season 2 the deeper plot really kicked into gear, and while it's not as grand, serious or deep as the SU plot but more of an, again, kid's adventure plot with bigger magical players and higher stakes, it's being handled much better. The Star vs crew is better at writing and pacing and handling filler, and they sort of keep the package tighter.
I don't know which one I prefer, or which one's "better". I guess it's a matter of what one's looking from the show. Before Bon Bon I'd have said SU for sure, but season 2 b really improved Star vs, and meanwhile most of the new eps SU puts out during season 4 have been seriously declining in quality, so it's entirely possible Star will come out the better show in the end.
Man, it sucks that SU's great potential is being wasted by incompetent writers. I heard that the difference between shows is that Nefcy runs a tighter ship than Sugar and writes a story outline for the eps and controls the great arc more, instead of allowing individual writing teams total freedom, and that clearly works MUCH better.
