>>88532830>>88532965Again, though. There was that almost unspoken air of 'Well, he's going to tie it all back together, right? Surely he wouldn't just leave these things hanging?', but, then, we got DaveKat. While on one hand Hussie is trying to pitch to us that people are part of a whole and the ultimate self means it doesn't matter which version of Dave makes it across the finish line, DaveKat seemed like and odd shift, combined with Dave pretty much directing a whole pesterlog about gender identity at the audience. From a story standpoint, it felt like Hussie was trying to tell the audience one thing, but showing an end product that felt wildly different from the pre-retcon character. It didn't sit easily. Plus, there felt like there was not trial or obstacle to overcome. Vriska was alive, and suddenly Dave and Karkat were in a stable relationship seemingly without hassle, which has never really been something either of them has shown any prowess in.
Another anon posted something a little while ago, too, and I agree with it, that it's completely fine if Dave is gay or bi. Pairing him with Karkat feels like 'well, they talk to each other, therefore gay!', almost tokenistic. A better endgame gay ship, if you wanted to write from a standpoint that every homodude has gone through, try for DaveJohn, except have John rebuke him. We've all had a straight friend we've been crushing on at one point, and having John rebuke but remain a friend would've been far more positive for LGBT+ inclusion than 'yes they are gay now'.
Plus, we really fucking hate Tumblr. Tumblr's idea of DaveKat is this sort of blushing, doki-doki sempai uguu~ bullshit, which doesn't fit either character. 4chan has always been contrary, and the more something is forced ("gay singularity", "my writing will become more queer"), the more we resent it. I personally didn't feel 'included' in shanking existing story elements for, again, what felt like my sexuality being reduced to fujo bait.
