The inside of the wand is just Star's memories. She's not doing things - she's remembering them. And the longer she spends in the wand, the more of her memories are actually her recalling stuff she saw in the wand. Interacting with those recollections appears to overwrite / interfere with the memories of doing those things in the first place.
For instance, we know the Glossyrck actually spent quite a while explaining how the memory shit works to Star, because she was able to recall herself remembering that. But in the process, she lost her own memories of Glossyrck talking to her. Hence, once she was pulled out again she had memories of herself with that knowledge, but didn't have any memory of the conversation itself - she "skipped" straight from Marco to the school.
