Shit people always try to tell themselves they're no worse than other people and want to believe other people are just as shit as them, I've noticed. But it's not true. Hell, I know this pair of siblings, older brother younger sister, who bicker insanely and were at each other's throats a lot when they were younger - but I NEVER heard either of them intentionally destroying the other's property out of spite.
