>>105752843It was a nice idea and "better than nothing", I suppose (in the same way that Samurai Jack season 5 was "better than nothing"). But they mishandled a lot of it. Most of the movie seems to be operating under vague memories of 13 Ghosts, likely assuming audiences are doing the same. Daphne is completely and utterly mischaracterized, as
>>105752673 described and if you have even vague memories of 13 Ghosts you'll realize how off base her portrayal is.
Fred is bad for all the reasons mentioned in this thread. Best explanation in the thread so far is
>>105749314 I think. He's written badly, given no place in the dynamic, and the use of Daphne to usurp all he brings to the group is a poor excuse, considering as previously mentioned, Daphne is not being portrayed accurately to how she was in 13 Ghosts.
Velma is also really shrewish and unpleasant throughout the movie; probably her least likeable depiction since Mystery Incorporated. And while Flim Flam is present and enjoyable, the total absence of Scrappy, Weerd and Bogel leaves you feeling like something is missing or at least badly overlooked.
But the plot when taken down to its premise is fun and full of references to 13 Ghosts that are well meaning, even if they do miss the mark (the rubber ducky running gag is there, but as someone pointed out, they missed the staple design). It pretends like the 13 Ghosts TV series was EXTREMELY SERIOUS BUSINESS when it was the goofiest, silliest, most cartoony Scooby series that had been made up to that time. Again, feeling like it was missing the point.
Maurice Lamarche does a great Vincent Price impression, but you already heard him as Vincent in Mystery Incorporated, so it won't blow anyone away. Some of the references were neat, like the 13th Ghost actually being the weird steamroller fire thing from the intro.
It was a let down. They went all in on Daphne and overdid her to a tremendous degree, disservicing everyone else.
