Favorite origin type?

Been curious for awhile. When it comes to superheroes specifically that have superpowers, what type of origin story do you like them to have?

Do you prefer they were just born with these powers?
Do you prefer they learned their superpowers from someone or something?
Do you prefer they got their superpowers due to some freak accident?
Or is there some other origin type for superpowers that you like the most?

Personally, I enjoy when normal people gain superpowers from an unexpected event. If done well, it's interesting to see them have to deal with their new reality and the changes it brings into their previously normal life. How do they deal with their powers? Is it a gift? A curse? Where does their moral compass take them? I think the situation naturally leads to interesting plot developments. Of course, each origin type has their own merits and me picking a single favorite is a little dishonest to myself, but that's my two cents.

Frankly, 90% of the time the origin is just a meaningless distraction. Superheroes with gimmicky superpowers are pure premise. Do we really need to know WHY Beast Boy is green and can change into animals? He's green and can change into animals. Why? Because he's Beast Boy. I'm not saying that having a history and a past is bad, but like, we care about the Uncle Ben and responsibility and blah blah hero's burden, academic poor geeky, etc etc part of Spider Man's origin story. But do we really care that he was bitten by a radioactive spider? It's just a tag line that was used to sell shit back in the Atomic age of scientific marvel.

I mean I agree with you, I just think that at times the origin story can change the progression of a characters growth.

For example, someone born with those powers, you can't really write stories about that character from the perspective of not having powers. It can limit the writing potential of a character but also expand options as well.

I just like to get a feel for things. It's been my thought for years that one of the main reason Spider-Man is so beloved is the nature of his powers, freak accident and the mantra of the series of "with great power comes great responsibility" and I personally believe that the general public doesn't give a shit about Superman just because "he's always this way" if you get what I mean.

Funny you mention Beast Boy as an example of origin story when honestly all Doom Patrol members have really weird origin stories, including him. I don't think it was even adapted outside of 1 minute in Titans and half an episode of YJ (they slightly changed it in both cases). Anyways after reading The New Teen Titans I was kinda surprised that Wolfman answered the question I said below by making Beast Boy try to be a Hollywood star (it doesn't end well).

The only good origin stories are Spider-Man and Batman because you instantly understand why these characters are heroes instead of asking "And why don't they use their powers to get money legally instead of being soldiers like any normal person would?". Captain America is also a good one because he gets his powers only because he is a good person.

Superman's origin is good and makes him extremely relatable because you know he's Clark Kent first and foremost.

Thing about Superman is his origin pretty much IS his premise. He's Earth's (or, really America's) adopted son from Krypton. That serves as his "origin story" in the hero's journey sense, the origin of his power, the premise of his character, AND his defining character traits all bundled into one.

Accident is best.
Hulk's origin is a good heroic sacrifice, and I don't know why they felt they needed to change it for the 03 movie.
She-Hulk's is also good, having the dilemma element.
