>>104724579I did genuinely enjoy this movie, but I wouldn't call it the best Spider-Man movie or even the best since Spider-Man 2. I don't get why it's getting such high praise.
My biggest gripes are:
>Miles not having defining character traits He's better than his comic counterpart, looks better too, but he was still just a generic "kid" character. The movie establishes that he does grafitti and singing, but barely expands on it.
>Jake Johnson's Peter Parker voice Peter was written more in character here than he has been in his last 5 movie appearances, but his voice (and design, why the fuck was he so chiseled?) really took me out of the character. Jake Johnson's actual VA work but his voice just didn't sound right for Spider-Man to me. Chris Pine's voice on the other hand was perfect.
>Aunt May being Oracle I get why it was done for narrative purposes, but it was weird and there was no emotional payoff for her meeting 616 Peter. She just buried the closest thing she had to a son after having already lost her husband and wasn't phased at all about seeing his face again at her doorstep. And 616 Pete barely reacted to seeing Aunt May when we just found out she died in his universe.
>The other Spiders I don't get why those chose the alternative Spider-Men they did. Gwen and her chemistry with Miles worked really well. Noir was cool, but did jack shit. Peni was an annoying stereotype and Spider-Ham only existed for pork and Looney Tunes jokes. There's so many Spider-Man spinoff characters and besides Gwen everyone else they choose for the movie were superfluous and boring.
And maybe it cause she's like 15, but 616 Peter not mentioning his Gwen at all was really weird to me. Gwen mentions "I lost my best friend Peter Parker" multiple times and doesn't even ask him if he had a Gwen. I expected her to throw it in his face when they were at Kingpin's dinner party and he tried to talk to MJ with a "How do you think I feel talking to you?", but nothing.
