There's never been a ban, studios have just been really reluctant to adapt it.

Possibly because it's an ultra dark book that verges on horror.

Yeah that ending in the book is really poignant. The little kid's only got four years of life left as a mouse and so has his human grandmother, so they're just going to murder every witch on the fucking planet and spend what time they have left together.

Animated BFG is really underrated. The Spielberg one was okay but the giants in the animated one scared the shit out of me as a kid. Shame they didn't keep the part from he book where they stuck the giants in a zoo and had people come and jeer at them until some drunk teenagers fell in and got eaten.

Roald Dahl used to fucking terrify me but for some reason I fucking loved it as a kid.

That Witches film is easily one of the best horror children films ever made and that one book about that family that got cursed to become bird people was one the first times I experienced a mix of confusion and unease over a story.
