I'm 100% sure there were more than some overlap between the books and the movie popularity, and if you marketed the books as a "complete collection" around when the final movie came out you'dve sold a shit load because there is some cross pollination going on there.
The issue is there is no cross pollination going on in comics because they're a fucking mess and they've been allowed to decay and twist. Nobody knows where to get these books, which one to start with because there's 100 different #1s, retcons, revamps, elseworlds etc.
Marvel and DC are not cleaning up their acts, or formats, they are not organizing properly, they are not getting these books out to where they can get into young kids hands, they are not propagating the industry for years to come, they are instead driving people away with this shit, over politicizing the books is a huge factor.
You can't even say the history is too long because people read one piece and Bleach and Boruto, they're long as fuck, and they have a singular story.
