>>103237958I agree with you. I just don't like when writers try to justify Batcat by making Catwoman essential to Batman's life. Specially when they bring stuffs like understanding and things like that. Catwoman, honestly, doesn't really understand Batman.
You could even see this in King's run, since he's so inconsistent with characterization. He wrote Batman saying that Catwoman was the only one that accepted and understood him, but in the arc where they confront Talia, he had Catwoman ripping Batman saying how utterly infantile and wrong with his crusade against crime. That's not understanding.
I like their relationship when it's more about one trying to control the other, be it Batman trying to reform Catwoman, or Catwoman trying to free Batman, and they both rebelling each other's attempts of control, with the sparks flying as a result. I like when they butt heads. It gives a tragic quality to it that is appealing. The same when they're trying to patch up and help one another, but the mutual distrust make them keep each other at arms length and sabotage themselves.
This super romantic crap is kinda cringe-worthy. Specially when writers don't fall it through.
