I think the true problem of all this stems from the fact we don't know dick about consciousness.
Why is "my" consciousness in "me"? why isn't it in someone else?
I know consciousness is probably not just an illusion, because a consciousness needs to exist for it to be fooled, "I think therefor I am".
Why does it make more sense in nature for there to be several consciousness-es rather than a big hive mind? why does it exist in the first place instead of just, not being there?
Can my consciousness exist elsewhere? can it exist somewhere that has different memories?
Or indeed, if I die and someone creates an exact replica of me in terms of biology, neurology and memories, would that old consciousness get a second chance? or would a new one spring into being, virtually indistinguishable?
