In general, though: if you're actually going to go somewhere with it, I don't see what the problem is. Not every adaptation needs to use the exact same rendition of a character every time. If you're going to do something interesting with it, like change the love interest or something for a different dynamic and to bring out a new side of the character, I'm all for it. If you're just doing it to go "look at me, I care about gay people!" but then never bring it up outside of a one off "oh yeah I'm gay now" sort of thing, then get fucked, there's no point to that. Just my opinion as a useless dyke
