>>101873041>Making her a prostitute was retarded. That whole thing was a mess from start to finish.
I forgot who wrote NYX... was it Quesada? Either way, basically he just went off and did that, put X-23 in his book as a prostitute. Except she hadn't actually existed in the MU yet.
So he ended up introducing a character from a kids cartoon as a child prostitute. I think her design in the show was also based on a real girl that Craig Kyle knew or was related to (maybe even his daughter, I dunno)
So anyway, that whole bullshit happened and Kyle and Yost got onboard to actually write her origins and a bunch of books featuring her following that.
But not before Marvel already had made more books with the character with absolutely no direction given to anyone, which is why Claremont actually used her for a few issues where he just doesn't know what to do with her, while he's doing his plot of turning Rachel into a fucking dinosaur... modern Claremont things.
There were some more random teamups with Spider-Man and Captain Universe thing until eventually Innocence Lost actually released and she got moved to New X-Men which Kyle and Yost took over.
That was the time that her character was actually built into what most people think of today. Target X eventually also added to that and then she moved to X-Force and her own solo, which was the last time someone truly tried actually working with her then established personality.
Looking back, it's kind of amazing she even has a few decent books to her name and a character people actually liked, even if it was just for a while.
