That’s one of the things I hate about the recent seasons, especially 6. Every episode is so connected to the main plot of the season that there’s no room for the randomness of the one-off episodes that made the series shine.

It gets a little obnoxious; it's the kind of ninjas vs pirates random humor that was a novelty back then but became a bit lame and lazy over time.

Thankfully, it's counterbalanced with the Science vs Magic storyline, that one is funny though the payoff is a little thin

But that's the whole joke of the episode! You've got all of this wild adventure and overly-complicated stuff going on, and the camera barely lingers on it so that we can spend all of our time on this petty, meaningless pissing contest between two insecure middle-aged men.
