>its nothing but a caricature, nothing else.caricatures are based on some kernel of truth though, that's what makes them caricatures, if they weren't based on something true then they would be unrecognizable. When Batman isn't totally driven by his childhood experience, he just looses his edge, he looses something essential to his character. As much as I love the idea of a super suave Bruce Wayne who's just as competent of a CEO as he is a crime fighter, there's just something about that idea that rings hollow, he looses his motivation the second he forgets about his parents and lets himself relax a little.
And this cuts down to the heart of the issue: one character is born in tragedy, the other isn't, that's the real reason why the BatsxWondy ship doesn't work. Every night when Batman goes out jumping off of rooftops and punch muggers he's reliving that night (weather it's literally on his mind or not) he's constantly trying to right that wrong, trying to atone for that moment. Wondy instead comes from an enlightened society and has a much grander outlook on humanity, she sees the best in people and attempts to inspire them to great deeds.
