They didn't outright say it but it seemed like they were implying that he needed a dwarven weapon to beat the dwarven gauntlet the infinity stones were attached to.
But it's unclear if the gauntlet even had any special properties. Thanos seemed capable of holding the stones bare handed so it wasn't like Ronan who needed to bind the stone to a tool to use it.

Did that even happen though? The gauntlet did look fried/damaged post-snap but that seemed to occur because of Thanos snapping his fingers, not because of Stormbreaker. It also didn't seem to stop Thanos from making a portal.

It's not like he has a Dragon Ball Cell Corps tracker. It probably took a while and a lot of agents gathering info to find out where all the stones are, and the opportunity to attack the dwarves without getting his mook army and four jobber lieutants slapped by a full Asgardian retaliation.

If anything, I'd say everyone jobbed to Thanos in this. This is one of the few movies I've seen in recent memory where the villain succeeds solely because the heroes are too incompetent to stop him. At least Doctor Strange had an excuse, but nobody else did.

Notice how he was totally fine in the end scene?
It's because Thor's attack didn't matter. Any amount of bodily harm can be undone, and by the soul stone I expect so could death.
Also I feel like he broke the gauntlet intentionally to prevent someone else from undoing his work. After all he had achieved his goal. He had no further use for it.

The way I see it, the stones were only ever a means to an end for him so he never really cared for them beyond snapping the universe into place. Add that together with the stones only ever activating their powers when their user actively wills it, you get a Thanos that doesn't care to abuse the stones to their fullest potential and only really ever use them as much as needed to get the job done.

So he wasn't planning on doing another cull in say 50-100 years?
Kinda renders his whole plan pointless if he wasn't going to keep coming back and controlling population levels.

I mean in 1967 Earths population was a bit over 3.4 billion. By 2017 it was 7.5 billion. In 50 years it has more then doubled.

I think it was damaged because Thanos willed something to happen that he was actually deeply conflicted about - that's what the vision of baby Gamora was all about. When she asked him if he'd achieved his goal he didn't exactly look happy when he replied yes. Thanos has doubts and those doubts are going to be his undoing in the next movie.

I liked when they took two of my favourite Thor stories, and one of my favourite Hulk stories, and reduced them to a string of cheap jokes to remove any and all tension. I kind of hope that becomes the new Marvel formula. 100% quip instead of this shitty 50-75% quip we've been getting. If they could add a laugh track to the next one, it'll be perfect.
