I thought Wonder Woman was shockingly bad. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine had good chemistry, hell, Pine was trying his damndest to make the movie work, and there's some cute scenes, but it looks like shit and the writing was beyond hackneyed.>Wonder Woman: I believe in love.>Ares: Then I will destroy you.
We have cartoonishly evil German general who shoots one of his own men in his first scene so we don't miss the point. Also, he has his female sidekick whip up chemical bad guy juice that makes him... strong, I guess? Strong enough for a fakeout fight with Wonder Woman but only that and absolutely no other plot significance.
The Ares twist could have been nice if it didn't make Ares a big dumb bad guy in Sauron armor the least fitting mustache possible. And then when he dies all of the German soldiers act like they're waking up and don't try to apprehend Wonder Woman's comrades, so I guess he really was controlling them?
There's a difference between embracing old movie cliches and just trying to play defense for a dumb, sloppily made mess.
To be fair, I didn't really like Spider-Man Homecoming, either.
