>>3256427the east asian animation this board focuses on seems the outlier among the animation styles of the world for its extreme emphasis on hyper-stylized prettiness
the west predominantly prefers either highly functional, easily animated designs that easily indicate movement (see the rubber-hose style of the 30s) or the caricature of sexuality that is the hyper-realism of comics
these extremes of cartooniness arent as conducive to pretty cuteness as the jap stuff, which hits the sweet spot between the extremes with its jewel eyes, nymphish figures, and interpolations of chibi which condense the character into pure cuteness
it has the human substance cartoons lack, but not the grittiness of comicbook hyper realism. /co/ is at a natural disadvantage
>>3256433>I don't even know any /co/ boys that can even be called moein pure bishie appeal, i know very few western boys with big name recognition who can sorta compete with the eastern guys. in contrast to the east, where from a single property like my hero academia, i can recognize at least 7. apart from animu boys like zuko? there's
- marco, but he's been reduced to naught but another boring trap (see OP)
- tom the demon boy from star vs
- hiro, but his movie was boring
- his brother tadashi
- hiccup, even with the 2010s video game sequel beard
- varian
- chat noir, impressive for tv 3d
- dick grayson
- marshall lee
and i must be missing a few. a few.
on more general cuteness, there's a lot, but rarely as competitive as the kawaii stuff (all the pines boys are great examples)
