I'm an undergrad mathematician too and I feel burned out, I don't want to work as a statistician, I realized I want to work as a developer. I may switch majors but I'm actually smart enough to learn by myself. So I don't know if I should just drop university entirely

I'm starting again tomorrow.
I took a year long break last year simply because I could afford it and felt burnt out and now I feel as if I'm completely out of the loop.
Especially with covid and shit making registering for classes a hassle, I feel overwhelmed and scared and I've noticed the past week that I've been looking into my studies again that I get dizzy and my heart races whenever I get nervous.
I've already missed registering for a lab and I feel like I've inadvertently fucked my entire studies over.

I do want to do PhD but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it in terms of employment. My plan is to do a masters in computer science with a work placement, work a few years in industry, then go back to do maths masters and maths PhD.

Maybe you can allocate some time to doing your developing/Programming work outside of your studies? There's some remote internships out there, apply and hopefully you'll get in! If internships don't work out you can check out open source projects and contribute to them. Basically anything to increase your cv/resume.

Yes, though I'm not sure what to do. I have some python exercises, and a small mathematical project with fortan and matplotlib

Got accepted into the consecutive Master's program at my uni, I still have to enroll though and I don't know if I'll even be able to make it since I haven't even finished writing my bachelor's thesis yet.
I hope I'm able to get a statement from the examination comittee that I will be done when the classes start or something like that.
Right now I'm just busy writing but I have this underlying fear that something will go wrong and I won't be able to start with my master's coming semester.

I've been solving some problems on code forces for fun although I've heard countless times that a project is better to go on the cv. Maybe look into the field you want to get into and program up a project to do with the field.

Like I'm into data science atm so I've planned out a few projects to with it, like making a csv reader and implementing algorithms such as knn. Maybe you can something similar in your field?

I don't really like where Math is goes as a research topic, like who the fuck cares. I may go the same path as you, but I feel that just being a code monkey is a happy job without a lot of thinking. Data science doesn't feel that hard, the hard thing about it seems to me cleaning up the data, implementing algorithms is straightforward desu.
