I can reach out my fin hand which appears and feels short and stubby and touch the wall where it looks to be... When even shapes distort and yet the model of reality still works, there is a serious problem.
See if it were some objective and unchangeable thing, I would expect to go to feel the fin and instead feel the outline of a hand. It is bizarre and strange. I cannot even tell what the shape of my body truly is.
I can put a ruler across my TV and it will say X amount of inches. Well when the entire room seems to shrink or widen, the tape measure shrinks or widens with it, still displaying the same amount of inches, rendering the measuring tool useless to show me what is really there.
