>>3190847>>3190856>>3190859No, and hear me out here: isn't that what Re-Take is? The prototype concept for a work like Rebuild? I'm not wrong here.
...and curiously, what characters like Shinji, Rei or the rest has, are indeed well-developed characters with defined character arcs that reach a conclusion that solves their dilemma. However, with Rebuild, the depth of their characters, in particular Reis has been removed and sabotaged.
Shinji's personal issues no longer matter because the main problem and source of conflict are now environmental and conspiratorial, not personal. Thus he is reduced to a "prize" for either Kaworu or Asuka, and Anno has graciously given the fans of said characters five years to work with (and enjoy) that scenario. No doubt, 4.44 will continue that scenario by invoking ever so ambigious and vague new plot devices that ultimately answer and create nothing.
By introducing Rei Q and the concept that Rei can be "cloned" indefinitely and be "used" as a doll, they've essentially broken the character into a million pieces where it is guaranteed that no single "Rei" ever reaches the quality and integrity of the original Rei. Moreover, the core concept of Rei's character, asserting her own identity as a singular is now completely impossible, as are any philosophical questions as the answer is given up straight: clones are different people and everyone knows that.
Even more interestingly, the only "looper" in the original was Rei Ayanami, and for good, plot related reasons. I can only surmise that a lot of fans were jealous of this status and sought to emulate it for themselves, as we've seen with these "follow up works".
In short, the "Qworu concept" that he wants is as poisonous as the "Re-Take concept", and it exists already perfectly executed in the Rebuilds. Even 4.0 can't fuck it up at this rate.
Is there even going to be a new Eva after this that's made by the OG people? This was the last chance for good EVA.
