>>3058667>>3058934I doubt Kaworu wouldn't push Shinji towards change and to seek professional help when it comes to this, as well as push him so he bonds with others.
Let's see how can I explain myself.
In episode 24 when they're in bed, Shinji opens himself up and begins talking about himself right after Kaworu asks him what's what he wants to tell him. Kaworu listen to him without judging him, without assuming things, without dismissing his past or feelings, without interrumpting him to talk about himself. I've seen many people criticising this in the fandom, 'but it's all about Shinji!', yet they fail at see something: that this is one of the things you have to take into account when it comes to support a depressed person, and it's an unfortunately common mistake to do the exact opposite instead of just listen. Add to there what I already said before, the few screentime for the relationship, and Shinji's backstory (which I'll talk about later).
In the another hand, while they're in the bath, Kaworu remarks Shinji's fears of loneliness. He says something there that'd have been a great advice if only Shinji had taken it to heart at that moment (he realizes this much, much later), and is also a thought against Instrumentality. He calls him out on his attitude towards people in general without harsh words and in a way he can understand, and makes him see that he can be loved. He also just holds his hand, making sure he's not pressuring him or making him feel umconfortable, even when he's inviting him: Shinji rejects his invitations at first and he's just okay with it. He's not guilt-tripping him or whining because of the rejection.
Rebuild is overall a mess and so is Q, but it's remarkable when we read suplementary material that they put the effort on the Kaworu/Shinji scenes (see the Ishida/Ogata interviews in the pamphlet of the movie for example, or
>>3058182 itself, what's the point in spending so much time talking about ONE scene otherwise?).
