They just tried their best based on the title name and maybe a paragraph sent by the publisher. And so they can be way off the mark. I think one was Amazon of Mars or something. It was "Amazon" as in "jungle" but the artist thought, "Sexy Warrior Woman".
Some books are getting republished with a little more justice. There was this book series about a man from mercury. And living so close to the sun, you know, he naturally had dark black skin pigmentation to protect him. But on the original covers he was repeatedly represented as this pasty white guy. Lol.
