What makes a genre? a generation? A gender? Are you male because you have a penis? Or is it it because you have penis that you are distinguished, virtually, as part of the plurality of creatures who also have a penis - a group, named after the form "masculine". That is all it is, a group name. A collective noun. Not an adjective.
Should the form not exist, the group merely lose it's name. It's still a group.
Should the group not exist, you merely lose your categorization. You still have a penis.
