Guns are not behind the problems in the US, for example in Switzerland there's a proper assault rifle in most houses (they have mandatory conscription and they get the military assault rifles to keep at home after they've completed the service), yet they have really low homicide rates.
In my country guns are also pretty common, and a lot of my friends go shooting or hunting.
