>>2656779 says, there's money in it too. For a mangaka, especially one with popular friends and associated with a thriving magazine like Qpa, capitalising on the hype is a good thing. For what it's worth, though, Si Mitsuru does seem to really like these characters, so while the money helps, I don't think they're drawing something they're completely uninterested in.
