The Earth's age is plausible.

However if the universe is infinite, then shouldn't it's age also be infinite?

It wasn't created out of nothing, so something had to always be there.

If it cannot end, then it had to have never been created/born.

No. Specifically because the observable universe is not all that exists, that is there are objects beyond what we can see in the farthest reaches of the universe that have drifted beyond the terminator line before we ever could view them and thus the observable universe is in itself an incomplete set of data from which modern astronomers and physicists try to formulate ridiculous and arbitrary theories upon and anyone that does not at least question these people is intellectually committing seppuku.

The redshift of all distant objects is proportional to their distance and can be calculated back. Their velocity or acceleration can be traced back, and at the edge of the observable universe is the microwave background, a stretched out image of the early universe . We can make images of distant objects by creating a false color image of non visible light like with radio telescopes

We only use 1 decimal place to account for uncertainty but it’s been pretty much consensus for decades, I think remember it was thought to be 13 billion in the 90s .

As for the earth heck I think they use models of solar system formation and can estimate age using radioactive isotopes, which decay at extremely consistent rates

lol, what? linear refers to the structure of a set of coordinates; namely that it's a line. Something that is linear can also be infinite. A linear line from 0 to ? is still infinite, whether it has a beginning or not. Check out aleph numbers if you want to learn more about "sizes" of infinity.

As for the universe, we only know the big bang happened 13.8 billion years ago, but that doesn't mean the universe didn't exist before then. Just look into eternal inflation [1]. And OP, maybe...just maybe...Earth wasn't created at the instant of the big bang?

This is my first time in /sci/ and can't say I'm impressed with the posters here. Are you all this dumb?
