Are hard toothbrushes really bad for your enamel and gums? If that is the case, then why the fuck are they still being sold and marketed as brushes for your teeth? For instance noone will sell sugary candy toothpaste because it will hurt the teeth...

But shouldn't this be regulated? I mean after all brushing your teeth is related to health. Other products like charcoal or UV-light do atleast no significant harm, whereas hard toothbrush grind away your teeth

Convince me to brush my teeth, sci. I have not brushed in years and my teeth are fine, I have eaten countless amounts of sugary drinks and such and the most my teeth suffer is being slightly yellow (but you have to get close to even tell). I have never gotten a cavity. What's the benefit? Didn't human teeth last most of your life centuries before the tooth brush was invented?

When you have fucked up your teeth you actually get to know from experience what damages your teeth.
Acidic drinks are worst even without sugar. They cause me pain and bleeding.
Sugar alone isn't that bad because it washes off easily.

I think damage from mouth breathing is underrated. This is just what I think but I'm sure it causes changes in acidity, increases amount of bacteria, causes bad breath.
My nose got crushed when I was a kid, it might have contributed to my mouth breathing.

You're probably like me, I always rinse my teeth after a meal or rinse at least if I can't be bothered to brush.

It doesn't matter whether it should be regulated. The fact that it is not being regulated should make it obvious that regulation is not actually based on human health, and therefore you need to find some other criteria by which regulation is decided

Dentist here. Hard toothbrushes are bad. Use soft ones and do not put too much pressure on the teeth to avoid abrasion.

Of course any toothbrush is better than no brushing at all. Abrasive defects are much easier to repair than decay and generally do not lead to tooth loss.

the bacteria that normally lives in your mouth is anaerobic and it will actually be harder for them to live if you get air through your mouth. exercise will actually improve your mouth. if you are 100% sedentary and begin cardio exercise, you might notice your saliva thins because your mouth becomes less hospitable to bacteria and the breathing moves and disrupts the bacteria.
