I'm a psychiatry proponent and will be the first to admit it, and most psychiatrists would as well
What exactly is or isn't pathological can be up to discussion, and unless you're an immediate threat to somebody or your own self, nobody will ever be forced to undergo psychiatric treatment (which is also why I'm always puzzled at the huge animosity people harbour towards it. Nobody is forcing you to seek treatment if said treatment doesn't fit you)
There are things like temporality, and societal impairment that play a major role in diagnosis, if your ability to fuction adequately in society is impaired for an extended period of time, there's a fairly good justification for trying to investigate how come and how to eventually solve it
