All this is is a shifting of the blame away from the elected officials who failed their population to the population itself. No, the common man does not have the time to investigate every issue, he does not have the time to vote on every issue. This is why we have representatives.

Now, these representatives have to make decisions based on largely 3 things:
>1. What they believe their voters would want them to do
The closest that this ever comes to being applicable to the earlier statement.

>2. What their political allies/leash holders want them to do
Can be as minor as peer pressure, or as blatant as blackmail, the end result is the same, people who have power wanting you to support an issue.

This is completely divorced from any notion of democratic will, as such there are already flaws in the theory that it's really "We the people" who are at fault.

>3. Experts and Advisors
As politicians are completely out of their league when it comes to anything aside from the subjects that got them elected, the depend heavily on experts and their advisors to develop a stance on such a topic.

Consider how this would play out if say, every "expert" (aside from those that are discredited) during a pandemic clamored for an experimental injection to be mandated for every man woman and child.

Long story short, I'm sure you're smart enough to put two and two together. Stop absolving these people, they do not deserve it.

No, The characters were all morons who would jump to rare diagnoses when the common ones had not been ruled out. Before having run bloodwork or other standard diagnostics.
But you can't have a TV show with the patients having the common flu.

Wrong, bigger moron. They jumped to rare diseases because they're working in the Diagnostics division, not a "normal" part of the hospital. If it were a common illness, the previous doctor would've caught it, and then the episode's plot wouldn't even start.
