Best ones in the 500 - 1500 dollars range?
I saw that Zeiss most basic one (Stemi 305) starts from 2000 dollars, is it worth it?
What about Leica and other brands?
What about chink stuff? Worth it?

Good question. There should be an addition to the stickey for recommended sci gear. Telescope, scales, microscope. Reading about subjects is good but conducting experiments should always be the core focus of any scientific endeavor.

Now I saw that there is a version of the Zeiss Stemi 305 for around 1600 dollars... interesting. It arrives at 40x (4 * 10x) while the Stemi 508 that costs around 3000 dollars arrives at 50x (5 * 10x)
don't really know if paying the double for 10x more is worth it...
also do you frens know what's the maximum zoom achievable with a stereo microscope?

At that price point you might be better off buying something used. Ebay or university auction sites are a good place to start.

Don't forget a light source either. Good quality fiber optic annulars can be over $1k just by themselves. My work mostly uses Meiji which are nice but I think they start around 2k new without illumination.

its a theoretical marking scheme began about 10 years ago and the suited trannies didnt let up and it eventually caught on

in microscopy you don't pay double for more objectives or different magnifications, you are primarily paying for the actual features on the scope like the stage and different condensers, ergonomics, random other features etc. Optics are all generally similar in price as long as they are the same type, at least within the scope of the manufacturer. For objectives, you should be paying attention to terms such as "flatness of field", like Zeiss' Achroplan line of objectives. See page 6 of this pdf

What do you need it for? If just for hobbies some cheap brands are good. Shit from Amscope is fine once you get used to it although there's a noticeable gap in quality compared to the high end stuff.

Why are light microscopes just so bad no matter the price? When will UV (or higher freq?) and better ones become a standard? Scientists already have atomic tunneling microscope, can they atleast give us electron ones?

these would be very interesting at a lower price... but you need to use special glassware (quartz) since normal glass absorbs UV and higher.

I'd look on Ebay, I buy all my Zeiss West 160mm microscopy stuff on there. Make sure it says "used" on the offer, this signifies the industrial standard of being used meaning its fully functional. This way if something is not up to your liking you can demand a full refund and Ebay will side with you. No collectible, no for parts items.

Also if you are gonna spend 1-2k try to get a stereo scope with a planapochromatic objective. You don't want the aesthetic aspect of microscopic observation to be ruined by colored purple fringes due to chromatic aberration etc.
