I have 8 strings of wool, i bunch them up and i can easely rip them in half with me hands, then i braid 6 strings of yard together, and now i am not strong enough to rip it apart. What is going on?

imaging you have a wooden stick
you could break it in half easely appling force perpendicularly to it (angle=90 degrees)
but try to appliy the force in parallel with the stick (angle=0) (try to tear it in half) and you will fail, because angle at which yoiu apply force is improtant
