By multiplying cosine of an angle with some length on x axis I get a projection of that length onto angled axis? What do I get by multiplying tangent of angle with length?

Length of hypotenuse is a function of x and y. Drawing h for every combination of x and y traces a circular curve, i.e. the tangent.

h is minimised when x = y

therefore h = x/cos(t) and h = y/sin(t)

x = hcos(t)
y = hsin(t)

hcos(t) = hsin(t)

cos(t) / sin(t) = 1

tan(t) = cos(t) / sin(t)

You get the length of the magenta line segment that corresponds to a circle of radius r, where r is the length you're multiplying the tangent by.
