You do -not- want to take the stuff long term due to tolerance, withdrawals, addiction, etc. Regardless of how much it helps you, and you will find it can very much help you.
Almost everyone I know who took them w/o reason to ended up getting addicted to them, and almost everyone I know with reason to also ended up getting addicted to them.
They are stimulants, which means they give your CNS a hard time, but then so does caffeine. I suppose it's the difference between 100mg of caffeine and 1g.
There are some people who take something like 40mg of instant release adderall at times which is just insane.

a person with the condition will feel brought up to "normal", whereas a person w/o the condition will be brought up to "high", of course, the person w/ the condition can be brought up to "high" as well with a higher dose.
Honestly your best is to have a few on hand for rare occasions but figure out meditation, self control, and other lifestyle things to not require it.
