1) much more prep time than most other classes to teach "intuitively", because math doesn't intuit as well as, say, cell biology
2) because early math is taught by retards, most people have a shaky-to-nonexistant intuition coming into calculus, and the class is taught to be learnable by most, so the level of teaching has to try and grasp a very wide margin of skill and intuition levels
3) most college kids put off shit until the last minute and cram/bullshit their way through a test or assignment because they have no discipline in life. That works for quite a few subjects, but math will punish you if you attempt to cram instead of actually going through the motions of learning.
All of this is a negative feedback loop into who ultimately teaches math. Either they have a shitty professor because they can't get anyone else, or the professor is done with bullshit and teaches at the correct high level, and whoever gets left in the dust does so because they are brainlets.
All of these add up to "math is hard why do my teacher suck"
