Any other time it depends. Scientists don't respond to dumb shit like flat earth or "I don't use y=mx+b in real life" while students get enraged at that kind of shit. With scientists you have to say shit like government subsidized research is a waste of taxpayer dollars or saying clean coal is a legitimate combatant against climate change.
