The traditional means of space of space travel (getting on a rocket ship and going 'up') is inefficient and limiting beyond low Earth orbit and nearly implausible in regards to visiting celestial bodies besides the moon. The universe is far too big to explore by simply moving on the spatial plane. I think it's time we come to terms with the limitations of traditional space travel and explore Earthbound space travel (as oxymoronic as that sounds). Transporters/stargates/wormholes certainly aren't new ideas but it's time that we realize that they or something like them are the only plausible way to leave not only the Solar system but really anywhere beyond Mars.
