since at least 3 anons were bitching that it's unfair to answer a post asking for a comparison of saturn v and sls development costs with a comparison of saturn v and sls development costs, i will now throw in spacecraft development costs on top of it.
csm inflation-adjusted total program cost was $39 billion and GNC was $5 billion. subtract the csm unit cost of $463 million * 21 csms built for spaceflight = ~$11 billion and you get around $33 billion development for the CSM. i am leaving out $12 billion in "instrumentation and spacecraft support" costs even though some of that should probably be included because some of that was going to LM support. in contrast, a GAO report last year estimated that total orion dev cost will end up around $19 billion.
add this to the numbers for sls + saturn v (which i again biased intentionally in saturn v's favor by not removing facilities and procurement costs from sls) and you end up with north of $83 billion for saturn v + csm and $42 billion for sls + orion. i know it offends the sensibilities of the circlejerk, but the apollo program was, in fact, expensive.>>13793298
cool, can't wait to see what numbers you come up with for it
