Why don't we set the meter to be like 1/100,000,000 of the distance light travels in a single second instead of having the cumbersome 1/129,028,029 or whatever it is?

Because it's better that meter makes sense and few scientists are "inconvenienced" by having to type c into their calculators and maybe remember the first digit of the actual value (which you fail at) vs having literally everything fucked when meter is suddenly almost 3 meters long
