This position is for a plastics refinery. Only details in job description was root cause analysis and working with melt indexes. Pay is OK.

Sounds kind of depressing to me but I guess it depends on your character.
You're basically a better paid lab assistant who does stuff that the people actually leading the research need done.
If you enjoy working with analytic instruments and running them for others rather than leading independent research I imagine this can be a good position for you.

I work in a hospital lab and it's super fun. Granted one of my hobbies is microscopy and I enjoy looking at people's pee/blood so that may not be something everyone is cut out for. It's not quite the same as a research lab; it's more like you're part of a fast paced team to improve people's health outcomes rather than crunching through experimental data. I'm curious how the research lab day-to-day feels in comparison because I might be interested in trying it out at some point later in life

Recently had interview for lab tech position. Went in expecting lab questions like which acids not to drink but got "how do you see yourself fitting into our community?" and similar.
Did not get job.
