Spoilers regarding Stowaway, 2021 and 2001, 1968
When I was watching Stowaway, the part where she retrieved the LOX from the other end of the tethers, I was experiencing quintessential horror, dunno how, or why, but I think I never was more... not scared, more like afraid of "height" than in that scene. Can anybody tell me how they did it? I think it was an alright movie overall, but that part was just on par man...
In 2001 on the other hand I was just bored, I love Stanley Kubrik and I love slow movies, like Lawrence of Arabia, but when Poole drifted away, when David let off Poole, I felt nothing. I think the idea was that the Disco1 was like accelerating the entire time, hence unpowered objects drifting away... I mean there was no thrust visible over almost the entire movie, so god knows what pulled him away but Kubrik made an honest attempt to make sense of the physics...
Anyways this is like the big thing, both movies used the stellar diorama/the ship and nothing else there really for the sensation of motion. And while 2001 just showed something happening, the meere prospect of falling off that desolate booster on the other end, getting yeeted, the FUCK into the abyss- haunted me like for a week or so.
Please more of that!
