PBL entrainment zone discussion

No.13385870 ViewReplyOriginalReport
During the day the surface is heated by the Sun and convection occurs. The hot air rises until it reaches neutral bouyancy and is capped by the capping inversion, called the entrainment zone.

If anyone is able to explain HOW the planetary boundary layer is capped that would be really nice. All the sources I've seen just say inversion, but don't explain what causes it (or I'm just stupid and don't understand).
