we don't know why
questioning the most fundamental laws of nature is more philosophical than what science attempts to do
science attempts to find whether something is true or false, not necessarily WHY it's true or false
you can ask the same question about some words, why is this word exactly that, instead of something else? and you will find no answer, it just is like that and you accept it and live with that combination of letters meaning what they do

to clarify: science does attempt to find why something is true or false, but about non-fundamental things
the fundamental things like constants or laws like gravity are given as axioms that less fundamental things build on top of

I don't mean like, philosophically why, I mean like, why do heavy things get attracted to each other.

Like if I ask why water turns into steam if you heat it, you say cause the molecules start going faster and space out more and the gaps become wider so it becomes gas

Is there a similar explanation for gravity/

steam (or gases) is a less fundamental phenomenon that occurs among many things because of gravity, so you can explain it in terms of that
i don't know much about quantum mechanics, so i don't know if gravity has its "parent" phenomena, but maybe it does
if it doesn't yet, then you can explore it and maybe spend your life discovering them, i guess that would be useful
