You (and perhaps others) are moving away from
your large crowd of people having a picnic at a
cottage on the green. It is your scientific
community, and you told them you'll be back.
You stroll down the path of inquiry as you inhale
the fresh, grassy air of hypotheses, deep in
thought.
After a while, you come across the gate of
breakthroughs. The gate door is held back
tight with the chains of evidence and data.
With eagerness within, you hypothesize some
more as you quicken your pace towards the
gate.
You then cross the threshold, leaving the cool
shade of mysteries behind and entering warm
sunshine of knowledge ahead. The winds of
success lightly blow around you as you admire
the great vista of your field, as many have told
you of this before. You then walked out of sight.
You then encounter a few splits in the path of
inquiry. Others have said that they've made it
to this area in the past, and the split seemed
further than they had said it would be along that
path. Beyond the split, though, everyone knows
to go wherever they please. And so did you.
Some time has passed and you return strolling
back to the community. You told the crowd of
your journey through the field, old and new
paths of interest, and even showed them the
interesting flora of results deep through the
woods of discovery.
The knowledge crept through the trees,
enlightening the community at the conclusion
of your report. Some have gathered around you
wanting to understand more. Then another
grouping meets with you. Then another...many
reviews by your peers.
The knowledge passes from the trees, leaving
the community in some mystery. One person
has finished his tea, well satisfied and in
deep thought of your report. The person then
went around and asked other people,
gesturing down inquiry as if to say to join him
in a stroll. They went with him.
You hypothesized as they leave.
You say to yourself: "This is science."
