Do you pronounce hide (n) and hide (v) differently? For me, hide (n) rhymes with side, whereas hide (v) has the same vowel sound as sight.

Yes I draw the "i" longer in the noun than the verb as well. English doesn't like homophones and I don't either.

This is the answer you're looking for OP. The general rule is that the diphthong is raised before unvoiced consonants, but there are some exceptions like spider, tiger, and cider (cider vs sider is one of the few examples in those dialects where the only distinction in pronunciation is in the raised vs unraised vowel, writer/rider may also qualify). Personally I can't pin down whether I raise the vowel when using hide as a noun, but the verb is a classic example which is raised. It's an interesting example of the divergence of the English language by distinction of sounds rather than a convergence of sounds (like cot/caught).
