The thing about stuff like this is that if you have a task you still need to be able to specify precisely what it is you want it to write for you.

In other words, if you are the kind of person who doesn't understand what the solution to a problem is going to look like well enough to say coherently what the transformations on e.g. some dataset need to be to get the result you want. It can't magically read your mind. So even if this is able to take text string specification and type signature for what a function should do at an extremely high level and generate code that carries it out, all this is going to do is form in effect another language that dumb people won't be able to use

More productive programming languages, better libraries, frameworks, platforms, automated infrastructure, domain specific languages (markups, scripts, build tools, ...), high level languages based on diagrams (such as the ones used for data bases, video game, engineering and electronics development) and much more still aren't enough.

Nah the plumber or Hvac is the last to be automated. Do you know how hard it is to get down in that shitty crevice where your tool doesn't even fit right because the people who put it in were fucked? Easily automated with a better sewer system but that needs a significant amount of upfront financing. You're not wrong but most of that is because of legacy systems that could (not should) be renewed.

this seems to be a dynamic code snippet generator. when the technology is mature this will solve two HUGE problems for programmers
1. using a new framework will be easier because the snippets will hand themselves to you when you are just starting out
2. senior devs familiar with the code often have this mindset of "i know exactly what i have to write out to finish this task, and i just wish i could materialize it into thought instead of having to do it manually"

That is what I'm arguing exactly, even if it has the effect you mentioned where it can take a well-written specification from a senior dev, and generate it, I don't think that this replaces the senior dev at all. And I don't think that your average stack overflow copypaste pajeet could write this kind of specification. Jobs will still be available.

If AI is actually capable of improving itself from an engineering perspective then literally every job is doomed.

All this AI can do is improve by learning from more data. It isn't able to improve itself and any legitimate software engineer knows the design of the system (i.e. the engineering work) is the core of their job and automated code generation will only make them more efficient.

Also the way machine learning works is by aggregating data and analyzing it and essentially copying it or using it to make predictions,
Meaning that AI lacks the ability of creative problem solving because creativity cannot be quantified or programmed into a machine. Further more being a good programmer is all about creative problem solving, thus making the AI essentially useless when it comes to designing code and can only be relegated to basic tasks
Something tells me that OP has never actually worked with machine learning
