I know this is a stupid question, but how is the heat of fusion reactors contained? There's obviously some physics and material sciences involved, but explain it in layman's terms.

The really hot plasma is separated from the container by a vacuum which prevents it from slagging the container. Energy escapes from the plasma in the forms of fast moving neutrons and thermal radiation. Both of which are captured by the mantle which is in turn cooled by a fluid which in turn runs a turbine and generates electricity.
