Looking at the current data we can see that our existence quite atypical, the moon, planet size/orbits, sun, solar system, galaxy and location within it are all relatively abnormal. Obviously the universe is big enough that this unique set of circumstances has repeated many times, but how many times? and is intelligent life developing also an abnormality? We really just lack data and our sample size is one, however scientifically speaking based on the limited data set it appears to be likely that it exists somewhere, if that's a few thousand alien civilizations in the observable universe or trillions is yet to be seen.
