How do you skim books ?
Ok sci, how do I consume the most out of a book of 1.2k pages and I am on page 150.
Exam in 10 days and i still need to do past papers when i finish this damn thing

Depends on what your learning
i had a 1.1k page book on composite materials and half of that was just different aplications of different materials in different ways
My best guess just use someone's notes since i presume you didn't take any, see what the teacher was talking about and read through those chapters its gonna get ya a passing grade at the least

You have to read a lot of books, like, an amount equivalent to what you have to read for your entire college education, and then you will automatically develop the skill to skim effectively.

Find a problem-heavy textbook, supplemental reading is always beneficial since you will miss 30% of information each skim.
Try to find the problems late in the book that are most dependent on earlier chapters, bonus points if you actually find the problem interesting. Then work through those problems in detail (maybe even with proofs) a few times until you're able to do them quickly on your own. Then you should have a good contextual understanding to skim read everything before that.
This is how I got through undergrad complex analysis in 3 days using improper integrals as the gateway.

Only read from relevant sections
Only read paragraphs that have a starting sentence that indicates that it has information you don't already know.
Go very fast and take notes of the very most essential information of each section

IFF you still have time left:
Switch your focus to practice problems
Do a second pass for important stuff you may have missed
Maybe take more notes

dont look at formulas unless theyre very straight forward

skip through EVERYTHING, look for nouns. you should be able to tell what you already know or what is fluff. read the table of contents and properly read the chapters for shit you don't understand

if you don't understand any of it, maybe give it a real once over. if its for school you can predict your professors meta through the classwork and the example problems in the book. prepare to do the gayest looking problem in the book, and youll be set no joke

Gotta purify the book first. Break down the book bindings, paper and ink in sulphuric acid. Then distill the liquified remains until all the ink is separated from the mush. Drink the remaining ink. This will ensure you have consumed the most out of the 1200 pages as it is mostly just the letters.

I still don't have a good handle on how to do this well, I feel like you just have to be in the right place at the right time with the material that you are trying to skim. As in: It is impossible to skim a Calculus textbook if it is your first time experiencing calculus.

You need to know what you are looking for to skim effectively. As a researcher I skim books on occasion and I just see what pops out to my mind as potentially interesting.

If you are studying for classes though, skimming doesn't work. You simply can't absorb information like that, just doesn't work that way.

read it all in a day first. its doable Ive read 1000 pages in a day before. Just make sure each word is clearly said by your mental voice (no braindead reading). sleep properly afterwards and return to memorable parts first to consolidate (this should be fast). then purposefully search for parts you dont remember well (this should take longer). voila

Examples (if you need to solve the problems)
Last paragraph.
Summary pages if they exist.
Problems again but you actually try to solve them this time.
